Our Diabetes Education Research Center combines research, education and treatment to confront the growing diabetes epidemic. With nearly 100,000 Palm Beach County residents who have diabetes and approximately 250,000 more at risk, we’re bringing together researchers, pharmacists, educators and nutritionists to teach children and families the best ways to care for themselves and help end America’s fastest growing disease.
The Center provides support for children and adults of all ages who may be at risk of diabetes, have diabetes or are at risk of complications of diabetes. Diabetes Education programs are offered to individuals, families, groups, community organizations, and neighborhood groups. Programs offered include:
Care is provided by Certified Diabetes Educators and a team of experts that includes: Endocrinologists, Nurse Practitioners, Nutritionists, and Pharmacists. Service is provided following receipt of a referral from a primary care provider or you may self-refer. Click here for Referral Form. Care is provided for all socioeconomic groups, for those who have health insurance or are uninsured. Uninsured clients will be offered community wellness resources for primary care services. Spanish, Haitian Creole and English languages are spoken.
Diabetes Education Research Center is managed by the Community Wellness Center Program of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in collaboration with the Gregory School of Pharmacy at Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU). The Medical Director of the program is a respected local pediatric endocrinologist, Mary Vaccarello-Cruz, M.D., joined by Dr. Marilyn Parker, Director of the FAU Community Wellness Centers and Dr. Seena Haines, Director of Integrated Pharmacotherapy Services at PBAU.
