Helping Special Needs Children Thrive
By giving Children’s Medical Services (CMS) a new home, we’re enhancing its compassionate care for children with special needs. CMS offers innovative education and training to care for children with a wide range of physical and neurological challenges and provides sensitive, respectful support for their families. With a family-centered, multi-disciplinary approach, CMS empowers children and families to realize their full potential.
Children with special health care needs are those children who need extra care. This may include medical services, therapies, or equipment due to a medical, behavioral, or developmental condition. CMS is a family-centered program with a medical home focus. Families are part of a team that includes a nurse care coordinator, social worker, and other CMS staff. Your child’s care coordinator will help you, doctors, and other health care providers obtain the care your child needs.
How To Apply
If your child has a medical, behavioral, or developmental condition that you think may qualify him or her for this special healthcare program, you may call your local Children’s Medical Services office at 561-881-5040. Through a partnership with the State of Florida and Palm Healthcare Foundation, children and families with private insurance are now eligible for CMS specialized services.
If you do not have insurance, call CMS or apply by completing a Florida KidCare application. Florida KidCare applications are available from your local Children’s Medical Services office or from Florida KidCare by calling the toll free number at 1-888-540-5437. You may also apply online at www.cms-kids/CMSNetwork.htm.
